Introduction
Night is the main exam for any video surveillance system. Most incidents happen in the dark, and it is at night that an ordinary camera lets you down: noise eats away detail, faces and plates blur, moving objects turn into smears. The classic fix is IR illumination (a black-and-white picture) or powerful floodlights. But IR kills color, and light is not always appropriate and costs money.
Hikvision took a different path — moving image processing onto artificial intelligence right inside the camera. This technology is called AI-ISP, and it is the foundation of the new DarkFighter 2.0 line. Let’s look at how it works and what it gives your business.

What AI-ISP is
The ISP (Image Signal Processor) is the “brain” of any camera that turns the raw sensor signal into a finished picture: removing noise, setting white balance, colors and exposure. In ordinary cameras the ISP works with fixed algorithms.
AI-ISP (Artificial Intelligence Image Signal Processing) replaces those rigid rules with a neural network trained on millions of frames. It processes the image in real time and essentially “reconstructs” the picture the way the human eye does — separating the useful signal from noise frame by frame.
Key functions
- SharpMotion — computational noise analysis: the neural network distinguishes noise from real information and delivers a sharp image even in ultra-low light, preserving detail.
- ShotN — multi-frame exposure: the camera simultaneously captures sharply objects moving at different speeds (e.g. a pedestrian and a fast-moving car in one frame).
- AI 3D LUT — intelligent color calibration across the full three-dimensional color space: natural, not “acid” colors at night.
- Enhanced WDR — wide dynamic range: blending several exposures so bright zones are not blown out and shadows are not lost (driveways, sign lighting, headlights).
- High frame rate — up to 4K@60fps (or 2MP@120fps): fast objects are captured without gaps.
Business advantages

- Color 24/7 without floodlights — identify clothing, car color and details where there used to be a black-and-white mush.
- Fewer false alarms — a clean picture plus AI analytics (AcuSense) tells people and vehicles apart from animals, shadows and rain more accurately.
- Infrastructure savings — less supplemental lighting and, as a result, lower operating costs.
- Real evidence — readable faces and plates at night mean recordings that genuinely work when investigating incidents.
What it works best with: the camera–NVR pairing
AI-ISP is implemented in the camera, but to unlock its full potential in the system (smart search, human/vehicle filtering, metadata storage), the camera should be paired with a Hikvision AcuSense NVR with a neural chip. Recommended pairings by site scale:
| Site scale | Cameras | Recorder (NVR) | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shop, café, office (up to 8 cameras) | ColorVu 2.0 / DarkFighter 2.0 (G2 series) | DS-7608NXI-K2/8P (AcuSense, PoE) | Compact, PoE out of the box, AcuSense on all channels |
| Hotel, restaurant, warehouse (up to 16–32) | DarkFighter 2.0 / DeepinView Gen2 | DS-7716NXI-I4/S(E) (DS-77XXNXI series, AcuSense) | 16 channels, 4 HDD bays, powerful neural analytics — the optimal “mid” recorder |
| Large site, perimeter, city | DeepinView Gen2 / DarkFighterX | DS-96xxNXI-I8/S (e.g. DS-9664NXI-I8) | RAM and power for AI across many 4K channels |
Practical rules for stable night analytics
- Mounting height: 2–3 m indoors, 3–8 m outdoors.
- Place the detection zone (line crossing/intrusion) in the center of the frame, not at the edge — the neural network needs time to “recognize” the object.
- For NVR analytics use an H.264/H.265 stream (H.264+/H.265+ are often unsupported in smart-analysis mode).
- Account for the limit of simultaneous AI channels on entry-level NVRs (often up to 4) — for large sites choose the higher model.
What NEMA 4X is and why it matters outdoors
AI-ISP answers the question “what the camera sees.” NEMA 4X answers “how long the camera survives in harsh conditions.” It is an enclosure protection standard set by the American NEMA association, and it is stricter than the familiar IP67.
NEMA 4X is everything NEMA 4 provides (dust-tight, protection from rain, snow, ice and pressurized water jets during hose-down cleaning) plus mandatory corrosion protection. The letter “X” means the enclosure passed salt-spray testing and does not rust or degrade in aggressive environments. Enclosures are made of stainless steel (304/316), polycarbonate or fiberglass.
- Coastal and marine climates — salty air and spray “eat” ordinary enclosures within a couple of years.
- Industry — acidic fumes, dust, regular pressurized equipment washdowns.
- Food production, warehouses, ports, gas stations — chemicals, sanitization, temperature swings.
- Regions with road de-icing agents — road salt destroys metal just like sea salt.
Put simply: IP67 protects against water and dust, but NEMA 4X additionally guarantees the enclosure will not rot from salt and chemicals. For Thailand, with its humid tropical and coastal climate, this is especially relevant.
Hikvision cameras where NEMA 4X meets AI-ISP
Hikvision has models that combine advanced AI image processing (DarkFighter / AI-ISP plus deep analytics) with an impact- and corrosion-resistant enclosure. This is the DeepinView series with a “Y” suffix in the model number — the “Y” denotes anti-corrosion construction. Such models carry three protection ratings at once: NEMA 4X (corrosion resistance plus water and dust), IP67 (dust-tight and submersion protection) and IK10 (impact and vandal resistance). Plus an operating range of roughly −40 °C to +60 °C, WDR up to 140 dB, DarkFighter for night and 50–100 m IR illumination.
Top DeepinView “Y” models (varifocal optics, maximum analytics)
| Model | Capabilities | Protection |
|---|---|---|
| iDS-2CD7A46G0/P-IZHSY | 4 MP, DeepinView, ANPR (license-plate recognition), DarkFighter, 140 dB WDR | NEMA 4X + IP67 + IK10 |
| iDS-2CD7146G2-IZHSY | 4 MP, deep analytics (human/vehicle/face), DarkFighter | NEMA 4X + IP67 + IK10 |
Fixed-lens cameras — our priority for typical sites
For most sites (retail, cafés, offices, warehouses, point-by-point perimeter) we prefer fixed-lens cameras: they are cheaper, more reliable (no moving zoom mechanics — fewer points of failure), hold focus stably for years and are easier to maintain. Below are anti-corrosion “Y” models with fixed optics where NEMA 4X protection meets AI processing (HikAI-ISP / ColorVu 3.0):
| Model | Capabilities | Protection |
|---|---|---|
| DS-2CD2347G3-LI2UY | 4 MP, ColorVu 3.0 + HikAI-ISP, Smart Hybrid Light (IR + white light), F1.0, fixed 2.8/4 mm optics, AcuSense (human/vehicle), dual microphone, 130 dB WDR | NEMA 4X + IP67 |
| DS-2CD3346G3-ISUY | 4 MP, AcuSense (human/vehicle), HikAI-ISP, fixed optics, built-in microphone and alarm I/O, anti-corrosion enclosure | NEMA 4X + IP67 |
«The exact model is selected for the site: focal length, ANPR or perimeter, enclosure type (bullet/turret/dome), fixed or varifocal optics.»
Project line and pre-order
Important for project planning. DeepinView cameras with a “Y” suffix (NEMA 4X + AI-ISP) belong to Hikvision’s project line — specialized equipment for specific tasks, not a mass stock range. These models are supplied to order (pre-order) with a 60–90 day lead time.
So plan the timeline in advance for projects with these cameras: the sooner the model and specification are agreed, the sooner delivery starts. WLTT will help select the exact configuration, lock the specification and place the pre-order, and offer stock-series solutions to cover the waiting period if needed.
Conclusion
The ideal outdoor camera for a demanding site combines two things: “smart vision” (AI-ISP / DarkFighter, to see in color at night without false alarms) and “armor” (NEMA 4X, so the enclosure survives salt, chemicals and years of service). Hikvision’s DeepinView “Y” series delivers both in a single device.
