Hikvision ColorVu 3.0: next-generation color in the dark — and how it differs from AI-ISP

The third generation of ColorVu is not a cosmetic refresh but a real leap: HikAI-ISP, Smart Hybrid Light, a new F1.0 lens and audio. We break down what is new, how ColorVu 3.0 differs from 2.0, and how it relates to AI-ISP (DarkFighter).

Introduction

ColorVu is a Hikvision technology that lets a camera capture full color around the clock, including at night, without infrared illumination and its black-and-white image. In late 2024 the third generation arrived — ColorVu 3.0 — and this is not a cosmetic update but a serious leap: the camera now packs AI-driven image processing, smart light, new optics and audio.

Let us break down what is new in ColorVu 3.0, how it differs from previous generations, and how it relates to AI-ISP (DarkFighter) technology.

In brief: what ColorVu is and why it matters

A normal camera switches to IR mode at night — the image turns black and white. You see a silhouette, but not the color of clothing, nor the color or details of a car. ColorVu solves this with:

  • a high-aperture lens (F1.0) — the sensor gets the maximum light;
  • a large, sensitive sensor;
  • warm white supplemental light where ambient lighting is insufficient.

The result is a vivid color image at night that shows what really matters for identification.

What is new in ColorVu 3.0

1. HikAI-ISP — AI inside image processing

The headline feature. The camera has a built-in AI signal-processing engine trained with deep learning. Instead of the simple noise reduction of earlier generations, it performs high-precision image restoration: it removes noise and grain and eliminates motion blur (people and cars no longer smear across the night frame).

Night image comparison: left is a noisier, softer previous-generation image; right is the sharp, saturated color of ColorVu 3.0
Left — previous generation (softer, more visible noise and motion blur); right — ColorVu 3.0 with HikAI-ISP: sharp frame, natural color, readable detail

2. AI 3D LUT — accurate color

Intelligent color calibration via a 3D lookup table: night colors look natural rather than murky or washed out as they sometimes did in early versions.

3. AI WDR — smart dynamic range

Wide dynamic range is now AI-managed: the camera itself balances bright and dark zones in real time (for example, headlights against a dark background) — with no manual tuning.

4. Smart Hybrid Light — smart light

ColorVu used to keep the white light on constantly. Now there is a smart mode: the camera runs on invisible IR (black and white) and, on an event (a person or vehicle in motion), instantly switches on white light and color. This reduces light pollution and extends LED life.

Courtyard entrance at night: warm white light switches on as a person and car approach, everything visible in color
Smart Hybrid Light: the camera waits in IR mode and, on an event, switches on warm white light and color — you can see clothing and car color

5. Super Confocal F1.0 lens

The new optics gather up to +130% more light than previous versions and focus IR and visible light on a single point — no softness or blur at the corners when switching modes.

6. AcuSense 3.0 + AcuSearch

Updated human/vehicle analytics reduce false alarms (up to 90% fewer triggers from headlights, rain, insects, per Hikvision). AcuSearch lets you search footage in one click by an image of the person or vehicle you need.

7. Audio 2.0 and housing protection

Two microphones plus a smart speaker: cleaner sound and twice the range for the public-address function. Plus reinforced anti-corrosion materials — many models meet NEMA 4X, which matters in humid, coastal and industrial climates.

ColorVu 3.0 and AI-ISP (DarkFighter): differences and common ground

This is a frequent question, so let us lay it out. Common ground: both are built on the same idea — AI image processing (HikAI-ISP). ColorVu 3.0 effectively uses the same intelligent signal processing under the hood as the DarkFighter 2.0 / AI-ISP line. Both fight noise and blur and deliver a clean night image.

The difference is in purpose and in how they “see” at night:

Primary goalColor 24/7 in the darkMaximum detail in ultra-low light
How it gets lightHigh aperture F1.0 + smart white lightUltra-sensitive sensor + AI, minimal own light
SegmentSMB, retail, residential, typical sitesProfessional and complex sites, perimeter, city
Range/opticsMostly fixed lens, near/mid zoneOften varifocal, long range, ANPR, DeepinView
PriceMore affordableHigher, flagship segment

How to choose, simply put

  • need color at night on a typical site (shop, café, courtyard, parking, entrance) on a reasonable budget → ColorVu 3.0;
  • need maximum detail in near-total darkness, plate recognition, long range, perimeter → AI-ISP / DarkFighter (DeepinView);
  • often they are combined on one site: ColorVu at entrances and color-critical zones, DarkFighter/DeepinView on the perimeter and distant points.

ColorVu 3.0 models with fixed optics and NEMA 4X protection

For typical sites we prefer cameras with a fixed lens — they are more reliable and cheaper. Examples of anti-corrosion “Y” models with ColorVu 3.0:

ModelCapabilitiesProtection
DS-2CD2347G3-LI2UY4 MP, ColorVu 3.0 + HikAI-ISP, Smart Hybrid Light, F1.0, fixed 2.8/4 mm lens, AcuSense, dual microphone, 130 dB WDRNEMA 4X + IP67
DS-2CD3346G3-ISUY4 MP, AcuSense (human/vehicle), HikAI-ISP, fixed lens, microphone + alarm I/O, anti-corrosion housingNEMA 4X + IP67
«Many anti-corrosion and project models are supplied to order (60–90 day pre-order) — we confirm the spec and exact part number per site.»

Bottom line

ColorVu 3.0 is next-generation “color night”: the same image-processing intelligence as AI-ISP, but tuned for round-the-clock color on mass-market sites, plus smart light, better optics, audio and housing protection. AI-ISP / DarkFighter remains the choice for complex, long-range tasks. In practice, combining them works best.
