A villa in Thailand is more than just a home — it is a full-scale residence: 300–1,000 m² of living space, grounds with a swimming pool and garden, guest houses, parking, and utility buildings. All of this needs protection — from intrusion, fire, and water leaks. And ideally without turning the interior into a maze of cable trays.
At WLTT, we have been installing Ajax Systems since 2018 — in villas, restaurants, and commercial properties across Thailand. Over this time, the system has evolved from an "interesting startup" into a professional platform with EN 50131 Grade 2 and Grade 3 certification. In this article, we explain why Ajax is the optimal choice for a villa, which devices you need, and what a typical project looks like.
Why wireless alarm instead of wired
A wired alarm system is the classic approach. Each sensor runs its own pair of wires to the central panel. For new builds, this works — you lay cable at the shell stage, then close up the walls. But for a finished villa, it means chasing walls, dust, damaged finishes, and weeks of installation.
Ajax eliminates this problem entirely. All devices communicate with the hub over the encrypted Jeweller radio protocol — no wires between any sensor and the panel. Installing 30–50 devices in a villa takes 1–2 days, not 2–3 weeks.
Wired vs wireless: comparison for an existing villa
- Wired system installation: 2–3 weeks. Ajax: 1–2 days.
- Wall chasing: required for wired. Ajax: not needed.
- Damage to finishes: unavoidable. Ajax: SmartBracket mounting, minimal intervention.
- System expansion: requires new cable runs. Ajax: add a sensor in 5 minutes via the app.
- Backup power: wired depends on UPS. Ajax Hub 2 Plus: up to 15 hours on built-in battery.
- Sabotage protection (wire cutting): vulnerability of wired systems. Ajax: nothing to cut, encrypted channel.
Jeweller protocol: how it works
Jeweller is Ajax's proprietary radio protocol, designed specifically for security systems. It is not WiFi, Zigbee, or Z-Wave. Key characteristics:
- Communication range: up to 2,000 m in open space. More than enough for a large villa with gardens and outbuildings.
- Alarm transmission speed: 0.15 seconds. Faster than you can blink.
- Encryption: block cipher with a dynamic key. Every communication session is unique.
- Anti-jamming: the hub monitors the radio spectrum and automatically switches between 5 frequency bands if interference is detected.
- Anti-spoofing: every device authenticates during each data exchange.
- Energy efficiency: sensors run on batteries for up to 7 years. No power cables needed.
For photo verification (from MotionCam cameras), a separate Wings protocol is used — it is optimized for image transfer and runs in parallel with Jeweller without affecting alarm processing speed.
Ajax Hub 2 Plus — the brain of the system
Hub 2 Plus is the central panel that controls the entire villa security system. It runs on the real-time OS Malevich, receives over-the-air updates, and supports four independent communication channels:
- Ethernet — primary connection via the villa's router.
- Wi-Fi — backup channel if the cable is unavailable.
- SIM card 1 (2G/3G/4G LTE) — if the internet provider goes down.
- SIM card 2 (2G/3G/4G LTE) — if the first mobile carrier is also unavailable.
Four channels mean that even with a complete internet outage and one mobile carrier failure, the system continues transmitting alarms. In Thailand, where internet disruptions occur during the rainy season — this is not theory but practical necessity.
Key Hub 2 Plus specifications
- Up to 200 connected devices — enough even for an estate.
- Up to 200 users and 25 security zones — separate arming for each building or floor.
- 64 automation scenarios — e.g., on alarm, turn on garden lights and send a photo.
- Support for up to 100 IP cameras — integration with Hikvision, Dahua, EZVIZ.
- Built-in battery: up to 15 hours of autonomous operation.
- Alarm photo verification in 9 seconds via MotionCam.
Which sensors does a villa need
A typical villa security project in Thailand includes several protection layers: perimeter, entry points, interior zones, and building systems. Here is what it looks like in practice.
1. Perimeter: MotionCam Outdoor
MotionCam Outdoor is a wireless outdoor motion detector with a built-in camera. When triggered, it sends a series of 1–5 photos to the owner's smartphone and to the security company's app. You see not just "alarm in zone 3" but an actual photo of what is happening.
- Detection range: up to 15 m.
- IR backlighting for night photography.
- LISA algorithm: two-level signal analysis (correlation + spectral) filters out false alarms from animals, birds, and swaying trees.
- Pet immunity for animals up to 80 cm (when mounted at 1 m height).
- Anti-masking Grade 3: detects attempts to tape, paint, or block the lens.
- Operating temperature: −25 °C to +60 °C. Thai heat is not a problem.
For a typical villa, we install 4–8 MotionCam Outdoor sensors around the perimeter: along the fence, at the gate, by the pool area entrance, and in the backyard.
2. Entry points: DoorProtect and GlassProtect
DoorProtect is a magnetic contact sensor that detects door, window, gate, and safe openings. GlassProtect is a glass-break sensor that responds to the characteristic acoustic wave.
- DoorProtect on every entry door, garage gate, garden gate.
- GlassProtect on panoramic windows and sliding glass doors by the pool.
- Instant notification when opened in armed mode.
- Battery life: up to 7 years without replacement.
3. Interior zones: MotionProtect and MotionCam
Inside the villa, we use a combination of standard motion detectors (MotionProtect) in transit areas and camera-equipped detectors (MotionCam) at key points — entrance hall, living room, corridor to bedrooms.
- MotionProtect: detection range up to 12 m, temperature compensation (important in tropical climates).
- MotionCam (PhOD): photo on alarm + photo on demand. Check the situation without driving to the villa.
- Pet immunity: adjustable detection zone ignores household pets.
4. Fire and water leaks
In Thailand's tropical climate, the two main building threats are fire (especially from short circuits during power surges) and water leaks (from air conditioners, pool equipment, plumbing).
- FireProtect 2: smoke, temperature, and carbon monoxide (CO) detector in one device.
- LeaksProtect: water leak sensor. Placed under air conditioners, in bathrooms, near pool equipment, in utility rooms.
- Instant push notification. The difference between "learning about a leak in 30 seconds" and "finding a flooded bedroom 2 days later" is hundreds of thousands of baht in repairs.
5. Control and automation
- SpaceControl — key fob for arming/disarming at the front door.
- KeyPad TouchScreen — control panel with PIN code and biometrics.
- Button — panic button. One press sends a signal to the monitoring station.
- WallSwitch / Relay — control lighting, gate motors, pool pumps via scenarios.
ReX 2: covering the entire villa property
Even 2,000 m Jeweller range assumes line of sight. In a real villa, signals pass through walls, floors, and landscaping. For large properties (over 500 m² plus garden plus guest house), we add a ReX 2 range extender depending on the villa configuration.
- ReX 2 doubles the system's coverage radius.
- Supports both protocols: Jeweller (alarms) and Wings (photo verification).
- Up to 5 extenders per hub — in practice, this covers any villa, including the largest estates.
- Works transparently: sensors switch between the hub and extender automatically.
Integration with video surveillance
Ajax does not replace cameras — it complements them. Hub 2 Plus supports up to 100 IP cameras directly in the Ajax app. On WLTT projects, we use the Ajax + Hikvision combination: alarm events in Ajax automatically pull the video feed from the corresponding camera.
- Perimeter alarm → recording from the nearest outdoor camera.
- Gate opening → instant snapshot from the entrance camera.
- Verification in one app: MotionCam photo + IP camera video — complete picture of the event.

Mobile app: your villa in your pocket
One of the main advantages of Ajax for villa owners in Thailand is full system control from anywhere in the world via the Ajax mobile app (iOS / Android):
- Arm and disarm with one swipe.
- Push notifications for every event: alarm, arming, disarming, low battery.
- View MotionCam photos and IP camera video.
- Zone control: arm the ground floor and guest house while leaving the second floor free.
- Guest access: grant temporary access to tenants, housekeepers, or security guards with limited permissions.
- Event history: complete log with timestamps.
For owners who live outside Thailand and visit their villa a few times a year, this is a critical feature. You control the property from Moscow, London, or Dubai with the same confidence as standing at the front door.
Typical project: 400 m² villa in Phuket
Here is what a real Ajax specification looks like for a medium-sized villa with a pool, garden, and guest house:
- 1 × Hub 2 Plus — central panel.
- 1 × ReX 2 — range extender for the guest house and far side of the property.
- 6 × MotionCam Outdoor — perimeter and building approaches.
- 4 × DoorProtect — front door, garage gate, garden gate, guest house door.
- 3 × GlassProtect — panoramic living room windows and pool-side sliding doors.
- 4 × MotionCam (PhOD) — entrance hall, living room, second-floor corridor, guest house.
- 3 × MotionProtect — kitchen, office, walk-in closet.
- 4 × FireProtect 2 — kitchen, living room, each bedroom.
- 3 × LeaksProtect — bathroom, under the server room AC unit, pool equipment room.
- 1 × KeyPad TouchScreen — at the main entrance.
- 2 × SpaceControl — key fobs for family members.
- 2 × Button — panic buttons (master bedroom, office).
Total: approximately 34 devices. Hub 2 Plus supports up to 200 — the expansion headroom is enormous.
The Thailand factor: why Ajax is especially relevant
Thailand imposes its own conditions on security system selection. Here are the factors that make Ajax particularly well-suited:
- Climate. Humidity 70–90%, temperatures up to +40 °C. Ajax outdoor sensors operate up to +60 °C with corrosion protection.
- Unstable power supply. Outages during rainy season are normal. Hub 2 Plus runs up to 15 hours on battery + four communication channels.
- Remote ownership. Many villa owners live abroad. Full control via app, guest access for management companies.
- Rental business. Renting on Airbnb? Issue temporary access codes to guests, get notifications on check-in/check-out.
- Wildlife. Geckos, lizards, cats, dogs — tropical fauna. LISA algorithm and pet immunity settings eliminate false alarms.
Pricing and how to order
The cost of an Ajax system depends on villa size, number of security zones, and sensor selection. Approximate range for a villa in Thailand:
- Basic kit (hub + 10–15 sensors): from 80,000 ฿.
- Medium project (hub + extender + 25–35 sensors): from 150,000 ฿.
- Extended project (full estate protection + automation): from 250,000 ฿.
- Installation and configuration: included in WLTT project cost.
