Agents and partners: building a restaurant sales network without a marketing department

An external network of partners who send guests to your venue and earn a reward for results, not for clicks. How the “Agents and Partners” module in ResoGuest turns this logic into a managed digital system with multi-level commissions and transparent reporting.

In the traditional model of restaurant promotion, everything depends on internal resources: a marketer, SMM, an advertising budget, occasional collaborations with bloggers. The model works, but it is expensive and slow to scale.

There is another approach — an external network of partners who send guests to a venue and earn a reward for results. Not for clicks and impressions, but for real guests and real reservations. In the restaurant industry of Southeast Asia this model works especially well: the tourism sector, corporate events, the event industry — these are all ecosystems where intermediaries play a key role.

This is the sixth article in our series about the ResoGuest platform. Earlier we covered the founding story, the loyalty module with Apple Wallet and Google Wallet, the reservation system, QR ordering in the dining room and the guest-to-guest referral system. Now — the “Agents and Partners” module, which turns the logic of external sales into a managed digital system.

Who agents are in the context of ResoGuest

An agent in the ResoGuest system is an external participant who directs guests to a venue through their referral link. Unlike the guest-to-guest referral program, which works between individuals, the agent network is aimed at professional intermediaries.

This could be a hotel concierge who recommends the restaurant to their guests. An event manager organising corporate dinners. A tour operator including the venue in an itinerary. A blogger or influencer working on a partner model. A corporate client bringing colleagues to business lunches.

Each agent receives a unique identifier and a personal link. Guests who arrive through that link are attributed to a specific agent. This makes it possible to track the real value of each partner.

Multi-level commissions

The key mechanic of the module is a flexible commission system. The venue configures it itself: a percentage of the reservation or order amount, an absolute sum for each guest brought in, bonuses for reaching volume thresholds.

ResoGuest supports a multi-level structure: a first-level agent receives commission directly, while the agent who recruited that agent earns a share of their activity (a second-level agent). This makes it possible to build small partner networks where a master agent — for example, a large tour operator or a restaurant consultant — recruits sub-agents and earns passive income from their work.

The depth of the levels and the commission amounts are configured in the dashboard — the venue fully controls the economics of the program.

Transparency for the partner

An agent program only works when the partner sees the real results of their work. ResoGuest gives each agent a personal dashboard or report showing: how many guests followed their link, how many of them made a reservation or order, how much commission has accrued over the period, and when and how the payout will be made.

«Transparency is the foundation of trust. An agent who sees exact figures works harder. An agent who does not understand how their reward is calculated loses motivation.»

For the venue, the dashboard shows the full picture: active agents, the volume of traffic from each, a comparison of partner performance, and accrued payout obligations.

Real usage scenarios

A resort restaurant on Samui. The venue works with three hotels within a half-kilometre radius. The concierge of each hotel is registered as an agent. When a guest asks where to have dinner, the concierge recommends a specific restaurant and gives a link for booking. The guest books — the restaurant sees the source, and the concierge receives commission automatically. No manual calculations, no disputes about who brought the guest.

A restaurant group in Bangkok. A chain of five venues works with the corporate segment. HR managers of large companies are registered as agents: when they organise a corporate lunch or a banquet for their team, part of the bill is returned to them as a bonus or credited to the company account. This formalises relationships that used to exist unofficially.

An event agency in Pattaya. Event organisers regularly book venues for corporate parties and birthdays. Through the agent module they receive an official percentage of each event — this makes ResoGuest their preferred venue compared with places where deals are made “on a handshake.”

How it differs from a classic affiliate program

A standard affiliate program in the restaurant business is usually a paper agreement and manual tracking in Excel. Someone keeps the spreadsheet, someone forgets to update it, and commissions are calculated once a quarter.

ResoGuest automates the entire cycle: tracking referrals, attributing reservations, calculating commissions, generating reports. This frees up time, eliminates disputes and makes the program scalable.

The agent module is especially valuable for venues that have no marketing department or development manager. Instead of hiring a separate person to work with partners — a platform that keeps the records for you.

The economics of an agent program

Any agent program makes sense only when its cost is lower than the cost of acquiring the same guest through alternative channels. That equation usually favours the agent model: you pay only for the result — for a real guest who came and spent money.

With properly configured economics, a venue pays the agent 5–10% of the bill and gets a guest it would otherwise have acquired through advertising with lower conversion and predictability.

An additional bonus is the quality of the traffic. A guest who came on the recommendation of a trusted source — a hotel concierge, a colleague at work — is inherently more loyal than a guest who clicked on a banner. They arrived expecting a good experience, and all the restaurant has to do is live up to that expectation.
